sick and tired of seeing people use zip ties for boning. listen to me i am a costume designer stop using plastic which does not hold your shape (the whole point of boning) you do not need to buy proper coiled boning or anything: go to a hardware store and find flat metal tension spring (google tells me that's what it's called, unfortunately i also don't know what its used for in hardware store related things so i cant describe it if that isnt the correct translation, soz) you can get a roll of 15m x 4mm tension spring for about 15 euros where i live and then you just have to cut it with metal shears (you can use a regular cutting pliers probably but if you have metal shears you will be happier) then either file down the edges a bit if you're genuinely gonna wear it a lot, or you just wind some tape around the edges to make sure putting them in the channels isn't gonna rip your fabric and anyway now you have an actually functional boned garment. go to a hardware store and show them this pic btw:

^ this is what you want. also bc this is 4mm wide around stress points like closures you want to make 2 channels right alongside each other and put in 2 pieces of tension spring for stability

I just googled "types of pants" "types of shirts" "types of neckline" "types of sleeve" etc. you can also do it. I shared them to show you how easy it is to do it. I'm not a unique expert I'm not withholding a bunch of secret info that you have to come and ask for!! I haven't been in a sewing class since highschool I am not a fashion expert I'm just some guy who knows how to google things and I'm trying to bestow that skill upon you 🫵

I sew, I make little plushies with needle and thread, I don’t know how to crochet, I knoweth not how to combine needles and yarn to make socks or beanies or coats. Knitting is trending, I am very happy for the knitters out there who are having their craft properly appreciated, im just sad because the free pattern I saw I can’t do cause I don’t know Jack about knitting

i know there have been reddit users migrating over to tumblr, but have there been anyone creating a reddit sub here? i saw that post about making a side blog and turning on submissions to act kind of the way a reddit sub would, and im curious if anyone has tried it bc i would love to give them a follow

the one thing i used reddit for was for subs like r/sewing where it was a centralized thing on that specific topic, not memes or such, and tumblr doesnt really have that, looking at/following the sewing tag is not the same thing

DRAGON IS DONE I think that took all of the crochet energy out of me for the next few weeks so this will probably be my last crochet project for the year. Took me 4 days and I kinda wish I gave myself more time especially because the body kinda looks a little wonky when working in continuous rounds. I might go back to working on my needlepoint or sewing projects soon though. Also Niki nui for scale and also all the update photos I posted privately in various discords included him so they feel like a package deal. My coworker will not be getting a Niki nui as part of the gift.
